We are excited to share that the inaugural ICON-Health Eminent Scholar Seminar Series event will take place September 21-22, sponsored in partnership with the FSU Department of Anthropology. We are honored to host Herman Pontzer, PhD, Professor of Evolutionary Anthropology and Global Health at the Duke Global Health Institute. As part of his visit, we will hold an evening session with Dr. Pontzer to discuss his book, Adaptable: How Your Unique Body Really Works and Why Our Biology Unites Us, exploring its themes from a broader societal perspective. Later this fall, in partnership with the College of Communication and Information, we are delighted to welcome Bruce Y. Lee, MD, MBA, to campus on December 2–3. Dr. Lee serves as Executive Director of the Center for Advanced Technology and Communication in Health (CATCH) and Professor of Health Policy and Management at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy. ICON-Health Book Club: Adaptable: How Your Unique Body Really Works and Why Our Biology Unites Us
In anticipation of Dr. Pontzer’s visit, we are launching an ICON-Health Book Club to read Adaptable: How Your Unique Body Really Works and Why Our Biology Unites Us - a finalist for the PEN/E.O. Wilson Literary Science Writing Award. This book explores how our genes and environments combine to shape human physiology, health, and diversity, and why so many modern diseases arise from a mismatch between our evolved bodies and modern life. Its themes — precision nutrition, gene–environment interplay, health disparities, and the responsible communication of science — align directly with the ICON-Health mission. Additionally, this book is written to be enjoyed by specialists and non-specialists alike.
